The Forge Tuesday Nights – Romans 2:6-16 (The importance of our good works…)
October 12 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm MST
Tomorrow night we will be continuing our walk through Romans as we take a close look at Chapter 2 verses 6-16. The passage addresses the importance of our good works in this life and presents the reality that we will answer to God for our works, even though our salvation is by faith In Jesus alone. Perhaps a better word to describe works is obedience.
It was great having Steve Wagner from Revive40 with us last week, and for those of you who may be feeling convicted to attend his Thursday night group to work through your sexual purity, it meets in the YTH 5|6 Room on the NE corner of campus at 6:30 pm on Thursday evenings. No need to register, you can just show up there if you are feeling compelled to attend. Men, there is no shame in struggling in this area of your life – we can all relate to the struggle. But please seek out the support and help you need before it causes damage to your relationship with your wife, and before your shame creates distance between you and God.
Next Tuesday night we will be doing a Night of Worship and Prayer with Nate Green and his band joining us to lead. The Venue no longer has the sound capability to support a full band so we will be meeting in the High School room at 6:30 pm. There will be no small group time that night, but we will get out a little earlier than normal so you will be able to touch base with your group if there is anything pressing. I encourage you to sit with your small groups so you can share in the times of prayer. It should be a powerful time of prayer over the work God is doing in the lives of the men in the Forge, in our church, and in the culture around us. I can’t wait to share that time with you all.
The golf group meets at 5 pm and ends at 7 pm
Main Idea: Everyone will be judged according to their deeds. (Jews and Gentiles alike)
If salvation is entirely by faith, then how do works enter the picture?
Read Eph 2:8-9 ESV,
Read 2 Cor 5:10 ESV, Matt 16:27 ESV, John 5:28-29 ESV, Rom 14:12 ESV
Does it change your thinking when you know you will be judged according to your works? How?
Read Phil 2:12-13 ESV
In light of this passage, what can we understand about the role of works in the life of a believer?
Read Gal 6:7-9 ESV, Matt 7:16 ESV, Matt 7:20 ESV
Our works are evidence of our salvation and obedience to our Lord and Master.
Evaluate your regular deeds in your life today. Do they reflect obedience to your Savior? Identify one area where you feel like you can improve?
